Inspirational Women Wednesday #IWW| Alena Conley | Entrepreneur

Alena and I first met while obtaining our MBA at Florida A&M University. While in college, Alena always had friends by her side, a smile on her face, and a strong head on her shoulders. After college, she achieved the ultimate MBA graduate’s goal of landing an amazing job with a reputable company on Wall Street. Despite excelling on the path that she was taught to believe was right, she still wasn’t happy. Alena inspires me because she has taken a leap of faith and made an admirable and successful life by doing what she loves to support her family and help others support theirs.

YOUR NAME AND PROFESSION

Alena Renee’ Conley, Entreprenuer & Direct Sales Professional

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT YOU DO, AND YOUR BUSINESS.

I’m a 30-year old Atlanta native, wife, and mother. I am the co-founder of a women’s empowerment platform called Star at Heart. I specialize in creating and strengthening social media presence for small business entrepreneurs. I am also an Independent Distributor for It Works Global, a health and beauty platform that offers solutions for living your best life physically and financially. I currently coach close to two thousand distributors and over 400 personal clients.

WHAT PUSHED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS? WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH WITH YOUR BUSINESS?

I was overworked and unfulfilled and was given the opportunity to help one of my close friends launch her own cosmetics line. Watching someone close to you take an idea and turn it into a global brand changes you. It makes it almost impossible to go back to just having a regular job while ignoring the constant itch that there is more to life. Through my various platforms I ultimately have one goal. Help people realize that our one purpose is to serve God and to serve others through our God-given talents. I strive to help people discover the set of unique tools that only they possess, unleashing their true identities. I have a technique I use personally and with my clients called “The Reminder Remedy” that was created to simply help remind people daily through a few simple habits that they’ve “got this”.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU? ON DAYS WHEN THINGS SEEM TOO STRESSFUL, WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?

I am all about a good “story”. I believe that people opening up and sharing their stories of where life has taken them…good, bad, challenges, success can literally change someone else’s life. In my line of work I am surrounded by stories, and these stories are what inspire me. Reading The Bible is honestly my only current source of written motivation or decompressor. I have always been a huge book reader and I got to a point where I felt like if you have read one self-help, personal development book, you have read them all. It wasn’t until I started to really dig into the stories of the Bible in the last six months that I started to have peace while stress and lack of motivation simply faded away.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESS, OR INTERESTED IN PURSUING THEIR BUSINESS FULL TIME?

I would say outside of the more traditional prep like putting together a business plan and saving some capital, it’s extremely important to build what I call your “mental stamina”. Your faith. One of the reoccurring themes I would hear from some of the most successful people I know, books I read, conferences I attended was their unwavering faith in themselves and their purpose. So in preparation invest in some books that challenge you to practice daily affirmations, 21-days of gratitude, law of attraction activities, habits like listening to “The Strangest Secret Ever” by Earl Nightingale daily. DSC_8253web-logo

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

Stop chasing accolades, degrees and the world’s idea of success. Seek wisdom from above, surrender your life to Christ, save yourself for your husband, serve others more, stop thinking the world revolves around you. I sound like an old lady but those are honestly the things I wish I could go back and change. I wasted a lot of time doing what I saw others doing, or the majority doing…chasing the next thing and the next thing and the next thing only to still be left unfulfilled because I never truly took the time to be still and hear what would forever change my life.

BONUS: WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR/MOMPRENEUR?

Freedom of time. No alarm clocks other than my baby boy. I design my own days, weeks and months. Being a momprenuer gives me the ability to make my child my priority without the permission of a boss. I also have thought of 50 million new products since having a baby…so I will never be out of business! LOL
