Today’s Inspirational Women Wednesday feature is highlighting Ms. Shari Williams, owner of an amazing full-service beauty and event company based in South Florida called Pink Wasabi. I’ve known Shari for a short time now but I feel like I’ve known her for so much longer! She has a great spirit and the gift of making you feel “right at home”. Shari inspires me because she has found a way to take all of her talents and interests, and use them to feed one initiative of serving others and making them feel their very best. I am excited to share her interview with you and I am also looking forward to working with her on future projects! I hope that you enjoy! 🙂
YOUR NAME AND PROFESSION
Shari L. Williams, Stylist, Beauty & Event Planner
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF, WHAT YOU DO, AND YOUR BUSINESS.
I’m a New York native, raised in Central New Jersey and rarely claim either. I moved to South Florida in 2003 and never quite looked back. I’ve created a life here that I love wholeheartedly and I’m a bit obsessed with self improvement (on the inside and out). My fiancé and I spend most of our time working and any free time is spent traveling together so we never really lose sight of each other. I plan and coordinate weddings, events, beauty/wellness services and style clients whenever asked.
WHAT PUSHED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS? WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH WITH YOUR BUSINESS?
WHAT INSPIRES YOU? ON DAYS WHEN THINGS SEEM TOO STRESSFUL, WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?
The vision I have for my future, my family & friends, travel and Pinterest inspire me. When work and life feel like they have a strangle hold on me I turn to my acupuncture doctor, wine and a workout (not necessarily in that order).
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE INTERESTED IN STARTING THEIR OWN BUSINESS, OR INTERESTED IN PURSUING THEIR BUSINESS FULL TIME?
Understand that your business is YOUR BUSINESS. It’s like giving birth to a baby and spending sleepless nights nurturing your baby until it can stand up and survive with less and less of your immediate supervision. What my business started out as and where we are today is like night and day, it has evolved and I have let it. Any opportunities to learn and grow, I’ve accepted them with open arms. Mind your physical and emotional health. Don’t talk too much, listen more (to experts). Don’t listen or talk too much to the people that doubt you. Seek out the opinions that come from knowledge and experience, and are based on logic. Then push forward!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?
Do what you love and follow your natural talents. I really love having this bachelor degree I never use except in conversation. Oh and beware of opportunists!!
BONUS: CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR RECENT ENGAGEMENT! WHAT IS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN ASSISTING OTHERS IN PLANNING THEIR WEDDINGS AS COMPARES TO PLANNING YOUR OWN?
Thank you!! The biggest difference in planning my wedding compared to my clients is that everything is to my taste. It’s very exciting to be my own client and genuinely love everything we’re choosing. When planning someone else’s wedding, you don’t always love their taste or vision, but it’s their day so you make it happen for them.
